2009 ushers the release of the new Alex Smoke album LUX.

LUX is due to be released in April.

It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost three years from the release of ‘Paradolia’ in 2006. Since then Alex has held back on his own name releases apart from a handful of twelves on Vakant while he expanded his studio to incorporate more hardware to fully push the parameters of his sound.

‘Lux’ is the result of his hard work and delves into more experimental territory whilst retaining the melancholic musicality of its predecessors.

The first single to be taken from the album is the club compatible ‘Blingkered’. The grinding ‘Foul Vertu Album Version’ is a heavy, low-slung throb that undulates and contorts into a brooding floor wrecker.

Next is Alex’s growling ‘1 Billion Diamond Version’, here he injects a penetrating 303 and foreboding strings to the gnarled proceedings.

Name+Relecto’s Reflective Remix follows on from their ‘Spawn Of Spoon EP’ with a demented, old school homage to techno of the early 90’s.

Finally ‘Dimbulb’ must surely be the wonkiest club track that Mr Smoke has ever concocted. The malfunctioning groove trips out and over itself for a mucked up hypnotic workout.
